Born and raised in Detroit, MI, Russell has grown
to show true appreciation for music. So much that
it is, without a doubt, a passion of his. He enjoys
singing anywhere he can and to those who have
an ear to listen (not excluding the hearing impaired).
He migrated to Washington, D.C. in 1994 to begin
a Mathematics Teaching career. This too has brought
him joy in unmeasurable ways. It has given his
life meaning and confidence that his living is
in no way lived in vain.
Russell began singing at age five in his mother's
young adult choir of Unity Baptist Church of Detroit,
MI. His first duet was performed with his brother,
Eric Jeter, at senior citizen's charity functions
and family Christmas parties in Chicago, IL. He
has never been shy of an audience! Talent shows,
Weddings, The National Theater, The Kennedy Center,
The R.F.K Stadium, festivals, parks, and art shows...Russell
has been around. He would say that he is, "...truly
blessed to have such an experience!"
He joined Reverb, an a cappella vocal group in
Washington, D.C. in 1994. It was then that he
discovered the art and hard work of a cappella
singing and the techniques it required to blend
various voices and styles to one chord. He wrote
"Spend Some Time", a love song of pop-flavor
and had it recorded on Reverb's CD. It was aired
on several Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia,
A.M. and F.M. Radio Stations. Russell performed
this song on International Radio for the National
Public Radio Morning Show, reaching an audience
in over 40 countries in Africa.
In 1998, ASCAP granted him membership as a writer
and performer. He then established "RJ3 Music
Productions", as his publishing company under
ASCAP. On June 2, 2000, he released his first
self-produced and arranged, solo CD of nine songs.
It is on sale at WWW.RUSSELLSINGS.COM and was
on Amazon.com in 2000. Since then, Russell has
sung the National Anthem for the Philadelphia
Eagles football home game, the Washington, DC,
Cadillac Grand Prix Race and the D.C. Freedom
and United Soccer teams to name a few.... June
2001 and 2002, he received the ASCAP "Popular
Music" award! He received a 2005 Wammie Award
for Best Gospel Group as a performer with Reverb!
...an accomplishment he is most proud of.
His aspirations are really just beginning. His
vocal power comes from the heart and when he sings,
it's passionate and you WILL feel it!
[He sings gospel, spirituals, rhythm and blues,
jazz, ballads, and a cappella music.]
